Orange Zest Fruit Delight

Story

We like quick. We like fruit flavors. We like simple. Christy adds a few of our favorite things; fruit, cake, orange sauce, and candied orange peel to make a dish sure to delight.

We’ve broken down the recipe here for each part. Enjoy separately, or assemble together.

Serve for brunch, a snack, family gathering, or celebration to shower the ones you love.


Ingredients

Orange Sauce

8 oz. cream cheese

1/3 cup sugar

Dessert Shell Pound Cake Rounds (Optional)

Candied Orange Peel

3 Oranges

2 Cups water

2 Cups sugar

Equipment Needed

  1. One small saucepan

  2. One medium saucepan & top

  3. Cheese grater

  4. Mixer (stand or hand-held)

  5. Medium bowl

  6. Pairing knife


Instructions

Orange Sauce

  1. Combine 8 ounces of cream cheese with 1/3 cup of sugar, beating until smooth.

  2. Add remaining ingredients (1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 Tablespoons grated orange rind, 1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice), beating well.

  3. Makes 1 1/2 cups.

  4. Serve directly over fruit, or, combine with other items to make a fresh, fruit topped cake.

Candied Orange Peel

  1. Use pairing knife to remove orange peel in 1 - 1 1/2 inch strips. Take care not to cut into the white pith.

  2. Cut the peel into 1/4 inch wide strips.

  3. Pour 1 cup cold water into small saucepan. Add orange strips. Bring to a boil and cook for 7 minutes. Drain.

  4. In medium saucepan, add 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water. Heat, stirring, until sugar is dissolved. This will form a syrup.

  5. Add orange peel into boiling syrup. reduce to simmer and cook covered for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  6. Place the peels on a cooling rack for 10 minutes.

  7. Pour 1 cup of sugar on baking sheet. Roll peels in the sugar until covered.

  8. Place peels on parchment paper to set for 30 minutes.

Assemble on top of Dessert Shell: Spoon orange sauce on top of shell. Place assorted fruit on top. Top with candied orange peel.

 

Tips and Tricks

Cut out the candied orange peel step and the dish can be ready in 10 minutes!
